More than 60 fantastic events marked the first ever Age Without Limits Action Day on 20 March 2024

We’re absolutely delighted that so many people and community groups across the country took part in the Age Without Limits Action Day – thank you!

It’s fantastic that within just two months of the Age Without Limits campaign launching, so many of you and your communities felt compelled to get involved and hold events that reflected what Action Day meant for you.

The variety of events held to help change the way we all think, feel and act about ageing was awe inspiring. They included:

  • An intergenerational Hip Hop event in Liverpool City Region
  • An over 50s archery competition in Belfast
  • An intergenerational podcast and poem workshop in Brighton
  • An over 50s music ensemble and performance in Plymouth
  • A monologue performance with scripts about ageism in Bolton
  • A self-portrait exhibition in Haringey, London, an intergenerational talent show in Doncaster
  • An intergenerational skill sharing workshop in Newcastle.

One older participant of the intergenerational workshop in Brighton said that she “loved the event and the young students were really interested in what she was saying” while one of the students fed back that what they enjoyed most about the event was “having a laugh, hearing stories from new people, understanding others and connecting with older people looking at their books, artwork, talking about our pets and sharing photos”.

“This activity was such a great idea. It really has made my day and made me feel positive,” said one person who participated in an arts session creating scrap books and sharing photographs and stories in Bury.

In central London, the Age Without Limits team held an exhibition of photography which celebrated the huge diversity across ages and showed there is no one way to grow old. The event was attended by hundreds of people and some wonderful conversations were had with visitors for whom the campaign theme about representation – See and be Seen – really resonated.

Engagement across social media was also better than we could have imagined. On X and Instagram alone the #SeeAndBeSeen hashtag was used in over 400 posts, reaching an audience of around 750 thousand social media users.

Thank you again to every one of you who got behind the Action Day. This is just the beginning! We can’t wait to start planning with you for next year.
