Thousands Question Ageism on Age Without Limits Day 2026

Age Without Limits Day is all about collective action and that energy was on display in full force last month. On 10 June, thousands of people throughout the UK came together to challenge ageism and start important conversations about the assumptions we make about age and ageing.

From community groups and charities to employers, supporters and our Campaign Champions, people found creative ways to mark the day and show that ageism is not inevitable – and by questioning it, we can start to change it.

As part of Centre for Ageing Better’s Age-friendly Communities work, we funded 60 of these events with microgrants to help community groups take part. We saw over 500 pieces of media coverage and there was also an incredible response on social media with hundreds of posts marking the day. There are too many brilliant events to include here, but we want to highlight a few of them.

Firstly, we want to recognise the amazing work of our small but mighty group of volunteer Campaign Champions. Since January, every member of this group has been challenging ageism in their communities – through discussions, conversations, social media posts and, to mark Age Without Limits Day, some brilliant events. Collectively, the group directly engaged over 200 people when marking the day via activities such as a roundtable discussion, use of our Age Without Limits quiz, a stall outside Waitrose, poetry displayed in a cafe, a chat at a dance class, and collaborating with other organisations to help host events in their local areas.

Haringey Reach and Connect’s 'Big Swish and Swagger Fashion Show' aimed to challenge ageist stereotypes and celebrate the creativity, confidence and contributions of older people. Ahead of the fashion show, participants took part in workshops with fashion designer Donald Waugh to create their own expressive outfits made of recycled materials. For the show itself, participants showcased their creations in a joyful catwalk across Tottenham Green in North London to ‘Vogue’ by Madonna playing out from the speakers as audience members clapped and cheered. One participant said, “I’m on a journey to show that life can be just as exciting, vibrant and rewarding in our later years".

Inclusive Intergenerational Dance (iID) hosted a varied day of activities featuring 12 taster workshops, such as art, ballet and tai chi, before the day rounded off with dancing at a silent disco. Our Age Without Limits Day prompted discussion and reflection, and participants also took the time to write down the ways they wanted to question ageism on our postcards. One participant wrote, ‘People underestimate the intelligence of older people’ and another wrote ‘Everyone is unique’. Images from iID’s day will soon be featuring on our age-positive image library but, for now, here’s a taster.

Powered by Hip Hop delivered free Hip Hop arts workshops to bring people together through music, creativity and conversation. Attendees enjoyed graffiti art, learned some DJ skills, shared their favourite songs, and had discussions about ageism and ageing over mugs of tea. One of the sessions also had a strong intergenerational approach: grandparents, parents and grandchildren took part together, working in groups to learn circus skills and breakdance steps. One participant said, "I never thought I'd have a go on DJ decks!", and all the activities were designed to encourage everyone to try something new.

East London LGBT Seniors brought Newham residents and local community groups together to form a group called ‘Newham Got Talent (NGT)’. NGT group selected activities to challenge assumptions that older people will be ‘less capable’ and to co-produce a performance show featuring a: cultural catwalk, digital portraits, drama, comedy, music, singing and dance sessions. The varied day also featured discussions about ageism, our Age Without Limits quiz, and storytelling about age discrimination. One attendee said, “Ageism is a big problem, but coming together like this makes our voice louder.”

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped make Age Without Limits Day 2026 such an incredible success.

Whether you hosted a community event, ran a workplace discussion, used our conversation starter resources, shared content on social media or simply questioned an age-based assumption you encountered, every action matters.

Ageism is one of the most normalised forms of discrimination, but together we are proving that change is possible. By continuing to question ageism, we can challenge the stereotypes and assumptions that limit us all.
