Age Without Limits Day in the workplace

Age Without Limits Day is our annual moment to take action to challenge ageism – and workplaces play a crucial role.

On 10 June 2026, organisations across the UK will come together to question ageism at work: the language we use, the assumptions we make and the everyday practices that shape who feels valued, supported and able to thrive at work.

This year, we’re focusing on the power of questions. When we pause to ask why we think or act a certain way about age, we can interrupt ageist habits and start to change them.

Why question ageism at work?

Ageism is one of the most widespread yet overlooked forms of discrimination – and it shows up clearly in working life.

  • Older workers face ageism in recruitment and are less likely to be given training and development.
  • People can be labelled as “overqualified”, “past their prime” or “not a cultural fit”.
  • Ageist jokes, comments and assumptions can chip away at confidence, ambition and belonging.

These beliefs aren’t based on evidence, but they have real consequences for careers, workplace culture and wellbeing.

Ageism is learned – and that means it can be unlearned. By asking curious, compassionate questions, workplaces can create cultures where experience, learning and contribution are valued at every age.

What does questioning ageism look like?

Questioning ageism doesn’t have to be complicated or time‑consuming. It can start with simple moments of reflection and conversation, such as:

  • Why do we associate innovation or energy with being young?
  • Why do we describe someone as “too experienced”?
  • Why do we talk about “generational differences” instead of individual strengths?
  • What would our workplace look like if we genuinely valued experience and learning at every age?

When we question ageism, we challenge it. And when we challenge it, we start to change it.

How your workplace can get involved

There’s no single ‘right’ way to take part. Whether you have five minutes or a full programme planned, every action counts.

Quick and easy ideas

  • Start a conversation: use our free conversation starters or the Age Without Limits Day chatterbox to spark discussion in team meetings, staff networks or lunch‑and‑learn sessions.
  • Create a question wall: invite colleagues to post questions they want to ask about age and work, such as “Why do we assume getting older means becoming less capable?” or “What do we gain as we grow older?”
  • Share and reflect: set aside time for individuals or teams to reflect on age‑related assumptions they’ve encountered – or held – at work, and what they might question going forward.
  • Get visible: display Age Without Limits Day posters or postcards in shared spaces to prompt conversations across your organisation.

Go a bit further

  • Host a discussion or panel on age, experience and inclusion at work.
  • Add an ageism round to a workplace quiz using our ready‑made resources.
  • Review language and practices – from job adverts to training opportunities – and ask what assumptions might be built in.
