Over 80 groups and organisations took part in Age Without Limits Day 2025

We were blown away by the response to Age Without Limits Day this year. Over 80 groups and organisations hosted events to celebrate ageing and challenge ageism, with thousands of people taking part across the country.

As part of Centre for Ageing Better’s Age-friendly Communities work, we funded 58 events with microgrants to help community groups take part. We saw over 550 pieces of media coverage and there was also an incredible response on social media with hundreds of posts and the campaign hashtag #AgeWithoutLimitsDay even trending on X! We know these marketing measures don't always feel meaningful but, given how little ageism was discussed just a few years ago, it's staggering to see the growth in awareness of this important topic. We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make a big noise about Age Without Limits Day.

The day is all about bringing people together to take action to end ageism, and it was amazing to see the range of activities and events taking place on the day, from theatre shows and photography exhibitions, to sports games and discussion groups.

Milaap Multicultural Day Centre hosted a session for their members to discuss their experiences of growing older, followed by drumming and walking football sessions. Milaap said, ‘These activities show that energy, talent, and friendship aren't just for the young. When Milaap members joined a walking football game or picked up drumsticks, they took back their stories of ability and excitement. Their participation challenged the stereotype that being "old" means being "past your prime".’

After taking part in walking football, one member said, ‘I haven't kicked a ball since school, and honestly, I thought those days were long gone! But it's been absolute fun. My legs might ache a bit tomorrow, but my spirit feels twenty years younger.’ Another who joined the drumming session said, ‘I thought drumming was for the young, turns out it’s for the bold.’

Dominoes and Dahlias, a Manchester-based African - Caribbean women’s theatre group, performed at a local community centre to mark Age Without Limits Day. Their play was a celebration of ageing and focused on the music that members of the group grew up with, charting through the 1970s to the present day with song and dance. There were also plenty of opportunities for their audience to get involved too! One member of the 60-person audience said, ‘The power of the reminiscence, it took me back, I can remember these venues, it took me right back. The power of music really makes you feel things. The music was so powerful, took you straight back to getting ready with your school friends and putting your turntable on, buying your favourite records.’

Many groups and organisations brought different ages together to challenge stereotypes and preconceived ideas about ageing. Reach and Connect worked in partnership with Haringey Sixth Form College, Sewn Together and The Together Project to host a day of activities focused on intergenerational connection. This included a lunch prepared by students, two creative conversation sessions in which participants discussed their common experiences, how they see each other and how everyone can work together to address the climate crisis. Participants wrote their ages on Age Without Limits Day stickers which prompted lots of discussions about how someone’s age can become a ‘Badge of Pride’. At the end of the day there was an Awards Ceremony to recognise the important role that older people play in the Haringey community. One participant said, ‘Thank you for seeing us!’

While we can’t showcase all the other brilliant events in this short blog, we want to include some other fantastic images from the day from: Generation Circus, who offer free circus fitness classes for over-50s, hosted a performance coinciding with Age Without Limits Day; Watford FC Community Sport & Education Trust who celebrated with a day of activities at their community centre, including walking football; HME Residents Association, Park Close Tenants Association and Livv Housing Group who joined forces to mark the day with a multi-generational discussion about ageing and a herbal planting session at Evolving Mindset.

Thank you so much to everyone who took part in Age Without Limits Day 2025. It’s clear that the momentum for a future where everyone can age without limits is growing and we can’t wait to get planning next year’s day. In the meantime, make sure you sign up to our newsletter to get involved and be the first to know what comes next!
